Guests: Brandi Newquist, 3-time cancer survivor and volunteer for the American Cancer Society, came in to discuss “Breast Cancer Awareness Month (October).” She focused on risk factors for developing the disease, prevention measure & the importance of early detection for successful treatment.
Segment II - 11:15pm – 11:30pm
Guests: Two representatives from the American Lung Association, Lisa Rabenstein, Director of Development, and Katie Van Cleave, Childhood Asthma Education Coordinator, came in to discuss the “Asthma Walks” set for the end of the year to raise awareness about the disease & the causes and treatments as well as to raise funds for research & treatment services to fight it.

Guests: Two representatives from The Black Hollywood Education and Resource Center (BHERC), Sandra Evers-Manly, President and Founder, and Filmmaker Julie Dash, came in to promote the upcoming “14th Annual African-American Film Marketplace and S.E. Manly Short Film Showcase,” taking place October 18th – 21st in Hollywood. They also discussed their ongoing mission to make sure that the image of Afro Americans continues & expands and maintains a balance in film. They also talked about the important avenue the film festival provide for young emerging black film makers to have their films shown.

Guests: Catherine Brown, President of the Children Affected By AIDS Foundation, came in to discuss the upcoming “Dream Halloween,” taking place on Saturday, October 27th, a fundraising event for this pediatric aids organization to assist with their ongoing mission to provide resources & services to care for children with HIV/AIDS. They are also very involved in funding research to find a cure.

Guests: Teri Roseman, breast cancer survivor and chair of Expedition Inspiration’s “12th Annual Take-A-Hike,” taking place on Saturday, October 13th. The goal of this fundraiser is to raise a quarter of a million dollars for awareness and research to fight breast cancer.
