Tim Stafford, Sr. Campaign Manager-San Fernando Valley Marathon Program of the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training, discussed their mission to Cure Leukemia, Lymphoma, Hodgkin’s Disease and Myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. He also talked about the advances in the treatment of patients with Blood Cancer over the past twenty years and promoted their upcoming [fundraising], four month training session for the team and solicited participation from our listeners.

Guest: Michael Torchia, Fitness Expert discussed his one man mission to help turn the tide of obesity and metabolic syndrome around in the US through his latest project, “Operation Fitness”. He talked about some of the basic elements of a healthier lifestyle that parents and children can begin implementing to make big changes in their life and improve their health. He also promoted the major health and fitness program hell be involved with as part of the Teen Strength and Fitness Challenge on February 17th at the LA Convention Center.

Guest: Joyce Harris, Public Information Officer for the Los Angeles County Office of Emergency Management, discussed the Emergency Survival Program (ESP) campaign for 2008, beginning with severe winter storms and heavy rain and the things the average person or family can do to prepare for possible flooding. She talked about their focus on terrorism; what to expect and how to be safe.  Ms. Harris also clarified the difference between landslides and mudslides and what causes them, offered steps we can take to help prepare our family and homes for landslides and mudslides, and gave some Tsunami preparedness advice to those who live, work or travel near the coast.
