Guests: LAUSD Superintendent David L. Brewer, and Faye McClure, Vice President of Strategic Marketing for Farmers Insurance Group, came in to promote the upcoming “Angel City Classic,” taking place on Saturday, September 8th. The Classic is a family oriented event that includes action packed football between two of the nation’s most prestigious historically black colleges & universities, North Carolina A&T State Aggies and the Prairie View A&M University Panthers, as well as Greek steps shows and battle of the bands. Superintendent Brewer gave an overview of his ongoing efforts of reforming LAUSD schools which are quite successful at the elementary school level. Challenges on the middle & high school lever include bringing the 38% ESL students up to English Academic lever & improving the low math performance. The major goal is to get students ready for college experience.

Guests: Two representatives from the Ovarian Cancer Coalition of Greater California, Gayle McKenna, President/Founder, and Dr. Linnea Chap, Gynecological Oncologist, came in to discuss ovarian cancer awareness month (September) and promote their upcoming “3k/5k Run walk, 10k Run & Kiddie K Run,” taking place on Sunday, September 9th. They promoted awareness about the warning signs & symptoms of this disease that is projected to affect over 23 thousand women this year half of which will dies because of late detection.
Segment III - 11:40pm – 11:50pm
Guests: Dr. Peter L. Kopelson, board certified dermatologist specializing in the revitalization of skin through medical laser applications and clinical cosmetic treatments, from The Kopelson Clinic, Inc., came in to discuss the signs, symptoms and treatment options for skin cancer. He described three different types of the disease and their severity stressing the importance of early detection and treatment.

Guests: Star Amador, Chairman of the Lomita Fair, came in to promote the upcoming 25th Annual edition of this community event, starting on Friday, September 7th. This community event provides a safe, family friendly and entertaining environment. It also raises funds to support St. Margaret Mary School as well as provide counseling services, emergency medical, homeless and hospice programs and services to victims of spousal and child abuse.
